August 2016
Sacramento City Unified School District
Get Ready Summit
When: August 10-11, 2016
Where: Sacramento, CA
What: Expanded Learning Presentations
Though practical in terms of assessment, standardized education is often mismatched with the genuine needs and aspirations of students and entire communities. The Expanded Learning space (before-school, after-school, and summer-school), however, provides an opportunity for educators, community based organizations, and artists to operate beyond standards and create impact through academic support, personal and cultural enrichment, and wellness activities.
To better prepare those who serve our students, Youth Development Support Services at Sacramento City Unified School District hosts an annual “Get Ready Summit” as we head into each new school year. Each Summer, over 300 Expanded Learning educators attend the event to better prepare for the school year ahead. The event is a training opportunity that provides space to participate and engage in a blend of workshops intended to enhance the levels of critical student engagement. By attending the event, participants advance their knowledge, increase their practical skills, and learn a variety of processes that will allow them to assess obstacles, enhance practices and improve success.
